Status Update – March 8, 2016
If you didn’t know already, I create a YouTube video for each comic strip I create, at youtube.com/c/maxandmaury . I have a really low number of subscribers and viewers right now, but it’s early days still. Each video contains the comic strip to read, followed by a commentary. The commentary is over a sped up version of the comic strip creation, which I record using my iPhone. I often add clips of footage from Call of Duty, because Max and Maury is a Call of Duty comic strip. It turns out surprisingly well, I think.
For now YouTube is my primary means of distributing my comic strip. One of the biggest impediments to making a career creating comic strips is just figuring out how to make money. With enough viewership, YouTube will have that covered. Hopefully. 🙂 That doesn’t mean I’ll ever stop posting my comic strips here, though. Just because YouTube is Max and Maury’s primary outlet, it doesn’t mean that I can just ignore the web site. Not everyone wants to watch a video to catch a comic strip. Plus I think a website is a much better way to distribute information like this. I know there are many YouTubers who would just post vlogs, but I prefer a text blog post. So I will continue to support both a YouTube channel and a website.
Finally, I realized one update a week is rather slow in the YouTube world. So I’ve been supplementing my weekly comic strip video with two gameplay commentaries. I now have a new video up every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. I have three videos going up every week, which I feel is the absolute minimum I need on YouTube right now. I include my comic strip characters (starting with Max now) in the gameplay commentaries, which is something unique and fun. I think the gameplays are entertaining, which is what I’m aiming for. I’m not an amazing CoD player with a ton of advice, but I think I can make CoD videos which are entertaining to watch. I hope you like them.
